If I had a magic wand…

“I don’t have 4 hands! Do it yourself!”

That’s what my mom would say if I asked her any favor when she would be in the middle of something. And I would wonder, why does she need 2 extra hands?

But I don’t wonder anymore. I know exactly what she means.

I am not a mom yet. But I am married, and I work and I am in a country far away from my family where I don’t get any help from anyone. I have to do everything on my own. My husband helps me, but it depends on his mood. And that’s when I realize, what is the importance of those 2 extra hands!!

In school, I would have needed a wand for doing my homework probably or all the things my mom would tell me to do. Today, Give me a magic wand and I will use it toΒ do all the household chores. I want it to do the dishes, to wash clothes and dry them, to cook food, clean the kitchen, clean the entire house, sort my wardrobe and all the other things that take up my time!

I realized that these are all the things that take up most of my time and keep me away from all other fancy stuff I want to do like blogging, YouTube videos, watch movies, etc.

At the second thought though, I don’t think I need a wand. Because it makes me feel so proud when someone(especially mom) says – “Oh! You manage it on your own? Great!” And this doesn’t mean that I will be less proud if they say “Oh! Your husband helps you with the chores? Lucky!Good.” πŸ˜‰ But then, are these proud moments worth of giving up all those fancy things?

Well, it is not about their comments, but the feeling of independence that makes me happier. I know now, I am not helpless. I can do anything to everything, on my own. With the time and practice, I am also learning to manage things within time, prioritize my work. On some days, my 2 extra hands also realize their responsibilities and help me πŸ™‚

So if I had a magic wand, I will just keep it aside or give it to someone who really needs it. For, I don’t really need it.

  1. Add kids to the mix and now there would be new chaos. πŸ™‚ Prioritization is the right thing. We cant always get to do everything. Sometimes my house is the messiest and instead of worrying about it, I learnt to live with it. πŸ™‚

I can’t even imagine what I am going to do after I will have kids!!
I think then comes a totally new angle and then we have to let go things. πŸ™‚

So today my mom asked if we thought she was an octopus.. We do depend on mommas for so much! but.. I don’t think it’s so difficult, as long as you prioritize and manage your work like you said, but maybe I don’t have as much responsibility yet?

Ya, in my case, when I was living in my parents house – i felt no responsibility to do anything. Then mom would even say – ‘Do you think that things happen on their own?’
And now I hear myself saying the same thing to my husband! Lol!
Before, I would do something only if my mom would tell me to do. Just because she told me to do it.
Now it is ‘my’ house, ‘my’ family, so it is ‘my’ responsibility to keep all in a proper way.

I really liked the way you ended the blog. Yes giving away the Magic Wand to someone who needs it, is such a beautiful idea. ☺️ loved it.

Now that you have mentioned, I think I will not give it to someone to keep it.
I will ask them to return it once they are done πŸ˜› πŸ˜€
